My job
Written by Desmond on January 29, 2008 – 7:13 pm -I’m back after a short hiatus. If you did notice, I’ve been blogging almost everyday for the past few weeks. Last week, I’ve decided to just give myself a short rest. Since I’m really quite tired lately. Probably most of you will think that why am I keep complaining I’m so so tired. I’ve never talk much about my work over here and today, right now, I’ve decided to tell you something about my job.
I’m working in a farm called Story Fresh. Basically my scope of work is harvesting lettuce, loading, unloading lettuce after cutting, planting as well. Probably you will feel like it’s easy, it sounds easy though… Believe it or not, it’s up to you. I’m telling you, is not an easy job, imagine you have to work under the sun and banding down your body all the time to cut them, the worst thing is to actually carry them crate by crate to pour into a bigger bin. That’s when you really get tired. Anyway, I’ll show you what I have to carry with me everyday I go to work.
The basic stuff would be my straw hat WITH an outdoor insect net.
I know you all sure ask me what is the net for? Is it necessary? Here is my answer, in the earlier post I mentioned before that the flies here are so so annoying, and trust me, you will do anything to prevent them getting near you when you are working. They will fly into you nose, ears and MOUTH! In some cases, you will actually swallow them accidentally. I mean it!
We are required to wear a cut resistant glove. Wear it on your left hand.
Cut resistant do not mean that the knife won’t cut through, it just enough to prevent an accident slash on your hand, if you really poke hardly, your knife will definitely go through the glove and there goes your hand.
On your right hand, you will have to buy your own glove, or without it’s ok. But for me, is to prevent dirt and mud stuck on my hand. In some cases, people’s hand will start to developed some skin problem if you don’t wear it. Probably because of dirty or sensitive.
Why do we have to wear cut resistant glove? I’ll show you how is our knife look like.
Use right hand to hold this knife and left hand to grab the lettuce, slash over the root, and there goes your lettuce. So how likely you will end up slashing your own hand and finger, use your imagination to think.
You can’t change cloths everyday, why? Because the cloths that you wear to work will end up like this.
Even you wash it, it won’t be clean anymore.
I have no chance to show you the farm photo still. Probably in the future, I’ll try my best. One thing good working in the farm is that, you can always take back some stuff from there. Like this potatoes…
I have to say another thing, I’m so dark now as I’m working under the sun, maybe you will got a shock when you see me. Just how dark I am right now.

Pandora-eye, I find it difficult to show my photo because as you know camera taking photo, unless you are in a definitely good lighting condition, then you can really see the akin color. But i’ll try and see later.
