I received a call last week from a company called Eat and Stay Free saying that I was chosen for a special short period promotion by purchasing only 109 dollars, I get to spend 7 nights in more than 100 hotels across Australia and New Zealand. By just purchasing 2 meals for each person each day, I can have free accommodation as long as I’m finish with my 7 nights voucher. I was impressed that night, I was really considering that promotion before this. By paying only 109 dollars for 7 nights and is even for 2 adults? Which means only 55 dollars per person! Cool…
The call was made by an Indian lady, I don’t remember what her name is (who cares?), explaining to me the terms and conditions over the phone for more than 40 minutes. When I showed myself interested in it, then she passed me to another Indian guy which she claimed to be her manager called John.
When I asked about the payment method, he was so convincing saying that they are a registered Australian company. Giving me the following details.
Address: 79, Oxford Street, Bondi Junction, NSW 2022.
ABN : 59111673968
I told him I need sometime to think about it, I will give him a call back if I’ve decided to purchase it, he says that this is a short period promotion, I won’t be able to contact him through the office number. (Huh?) He says that perhaps he can give me a call back and he is taking his risk to reserve the voucher for me. I asked him to call back to me yesterday for my decision.
I asked my friend, KahPeng, whether if he wants to share with me since the voucher is for 2 adults. He looked doubtful, my fault. I was the one trying to convince him about this promotion. Anyway, we decided to buy it after this.
This manager called back yesterday, and we talk about the payment method, he asked me for my credit card number and expiry date (Something fishy here), I was quite worried, how can I just give you my credit card number?! He tried to convinced me paying through credit card, but lucky me, I did not. In the end, he has no option but to ask me to pay him through money order.
The money order is send to a P.O. BOX, not even the address to the office. I was still blinded. I send the money to this address,
P.O.Box 1607, Bondi Junction, NSW 1355.
I’ve made my payment in the post office this morning. He called in to me again today for the money confirmation and asking me if any other of my friends are interested in this promotion, and I really did say to him maybe my friend Benjamin is interested in it, and ask him to call back.
KahPeng have a check on the internet later about this company just now, this is where the interesting part started.
The ABN number provided by the “manager” shows that the name is under Freedom Escape Pty. He even managed to find another ABN number which Freedom Escape was using ealier and it was deregistered! (Being canceled) He managed to find a forum regarding some scams from this Freedom Escape company on the internet, the promotion they were discussing in the forum are exactly like mine!
And there are more than 200 websites under the Freedom Escape domain name, Eat and Stay is one of them. The worst thing is, even the theme they used for these websites are the same! Oh god… Rubbish!
I quickly rushed to the post office just few minutes before it close. I managed to cancel my money order and cash back my money. Lucky me, imagine if I have use my credit card to pay him.
He called in the last time trying to ask my friends to purchase the promotion, this time I was prepared. I had everything in my mind on how to question him.
(Due to a long conversation, I’ve sort out, and only write the important one.)
Me: Is Freedom Escape under your company?
Manager: Where have you heard of it?
Me: I saw it from the internet, you all are related?
Manager: Freedom Escape is our mother company.
Me: I saw from the internet rumors that they are scammers.
Manager: We are not scammers, don’t worry. You had our ABN number, you can trace our company information.
Me: I can simply setup a company and register an ABN number easily, it does not prove anything.
Manager: You have paid to Eat and Stay, you have the receipt of it, if we did not give you the voucher, you can come out and show the receipt that you have paid to us.
Me: It only proves that I’ve paid you the money, for what? I have no evidence shows that you are going to send me the voucher. so?
Me: Speaking of ABN number, I even managed to find out that Freedom Escape previous ABN number was being canceled.
Manager: We are not Freedom Escape, we are Eat and Stay Free. (Now you say so…)
Me: I thought you all are under Freedom Escape?
Manager: We are not scammers, if you want, I can even give you my credit card number.
Me: I don’t want your credit card number, only scammers need that. (Like you asking for mine earlier.)
Menager: Look, we are company with good reputation…
Me: With those comments on the internet? I doubt that.
The following conversation was unnecessary. I told them I’ve cancel the money order, and probably will bring this case the the local police. He got a shock, I just shut the phone.
So beware guys, take note of this company. I would not say they sure are scammer. However, I’ve look through the cases discussed by other people in the forum, and with those comments, I must say it is not whatever they so call Special Promotion. The rest is up to you to judge.
P/S: Due to what I’ve written here, probably they have noticed what are the problems with their websites, when you see their websites, I’m not surprise they have changed it to look even more real to you all. Beware!

4I too was scammed. I checked out the website whilst on the call and thought it looked legitimate. I noticed the dining-in condition and asked the woman if that was a condition to which she answered NO that it was a special offer for a short time and even mentioned that the government was involved in this offer.I was to get 21 certificates and only received nine. Ihave contacted some listed hotels but not yet had any replies. Her english was not good. I have registered a complaint with Fair Trading NSW. Please anyone else who that has been caught please do the same. I am sure weight of numbers will bring a better result.

6I have also been contacted by this company and have done some research of my own in an attempt to determine if this is a legitimate offer as it sounded too good to be true (especially after reading the above comments). I decided to call some of the ‘participating’ hotels direct to enquire if they have heard of the compamy and if they indeed accept their vouchers. Much to my surpirse, the hotels I called have heard of them and do accept their vouchures (I called Rydges and Noosa Blue Resort). However, they did say that they do not give priority bookings to people with eat and stay vouchers (as I was told by the lady who called me). I’m still not sure if I’m completely convinced and am worried about giving my credit card details over the phone but thought I would share this information.

7Eat and Stay Free IS A SCAM. You will never get all of what is promised or suggested might be possible. Try using vouchers in Whyalla SA - normal cost of room is $125 per night. With VOUCHER you are REQUIRED to spend $177.00 in the restaurant to get room free!
Vouchers are not worth the paper …. you know the deal!

8hello everyone, i was scammed by the telemarketer as he sees that i was not interested, he told me that i can used two vouchres to stay for one night and i thougth this deal is the best deal you can get in time of reccession. So i bought them over the phone and a week later when i got the vouchers i could not find anythings about use two vochers for to stay for one night. besides after i check the hotels directly on their website the rates are much better with the one quoted by Freedom Escapes. I even contacted them to find me a good hotel in Sydney and have not had a reply untill now. I emailed the manager to refund my money for the vouchers and he would not and instead he want to scam me more with other deals. Be Careful guys, you can better deals buying direct through hotels rathers than going through scammers. The worse is i even convinced my brother to buy the same as i thought it was a good deal. These people need to be stopped before its too late. If there product is really geniune, they would take it back without questions! Would they? But not! So BEWARE

9Just received a call and glad I didn’t fall for it. Didn’t sit well and decided to put it off and do a web search on it in case of scam. Thanks so much for taking the time to make your experience known. I just saved $99

10Just received a phone call last night from an Andrew Jackson the so called floor manager for the eat & stay free promotion, the call wasn’t really for me I was at a mates place & enjoy taking the piss out of tele marketers, so with loud speaker on we sat around telling them were we wanted to stay in W.A knowing there wasn’t any accomadation, asking him some of the most stupid of questions, so we decided to throw in a town that we visit quite often & he rattled off a riverside appartment then we just twigged these appartments dont serve meals. We let him finish he asks for credit card details & after telling him there wasnt a hope in hell I was giving it to him he just wanted the expiry date so he could send out some information,I should have just given him one, due to I gave him a fony address & name after I thought it was a scam, that would have kept him tied up for a while trying to figure out my credit card details, so if you do get a call try to catch him out with a place you know because we knew you couldnt get accomadation where we wanted to go but he said he cane get us in on the christmas break for only $209 for fourteen days because christmas wasnt a peak period. ( what a tossa)

11Please beware of callers from Freedom Escapes. I answered my work switchboard at about 1pm today. And you know what? When it sounds too good to be true that’s because it is… I found them to be very pushy and manipulating. In fact, I kept trying to speak, explaining that I was at work and couldn’t be kept on the phone listening to their sales pitch about holiday accommodation at dirt cheat prices. Finally, I insisted that I had to get off the phone, thanked them for their call and hung up. Two minutes later they called again. I reiterated that I was not interested, politely of course. I kept saying “thank you but I’m not interested”. The caller kept insisting to explain their deal further. Eventually I had to say, “Excuse me, I have told you I am not interested and please do not call us again.”

12Well, I did purchase a 7 night lot of vouchers for $99 and have not used them. As someone else mentioned you could get accommodation etc cheaper by booking straight with the accommodation where you wish to stay. It isn’t until you checkout the website or get a sample of costs with your vouchers that you realise, that you don’t just have to buy meal /s, you gotta spend a certain amount. (way too much).
I think my loss of the cost of the vouchers is better than the extra money it will cost me if I use them.

13THey are not exactly as they promised; they need to give more training to their sales staff that over exaggerating will not get extra sales.
Once you have the vouchers you can get your monies worth by planning it out; ie you have 24 months to use em, pick the best hotel and use the 2 nights for one deal. If you use the eat a stay free version, pick the hotel where the food is worth going for; maybe not Walhalla in SA but then you are only paying 50 bucks for 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts (cos the accomodation was 125 anyhoo) re: Wally above. ok if the foods good.

14We just received a call from “Andrew Jackson”, accent not aussie or anglo. He talked for about an hour. My husband was convinced, the offer was real - pay only $209. You have 18 months in which to take 14 nights accommodation, in 200 locations across Australia. No extra charges whatsoever. Andrew provided details such as the company’s name and address, Lifestyle Dynamics Pty Ltd, level 7, 71 Walker St North Sydney 2059, ph 02 946 04178, ABN 0294604178.We checked the ABN online during the call - it’s been in place since 2005. My husband had given out all our contact details, and was giving him our credit card details when I put my hand over the card, stopping him, smelling a scam. We have since tried to find specific scam reports online. The closest I can find is this site. The name Andrew Jackson came up in my search of ‘holiday accommodation scam phone calls’. I concluded the phone conversation, asking Andrew to call back tomorrow. We need time to check it out. He phoned back in about half an hour, asking for the credit card number again. I told him he was being pushy, and that we suspected a scam. He quickly hung up. Please if you have more info on Lifestyle Dynamics p/L it would be useful to share it. The story is so close to Eat and Stay, and Freedom Escapes, even though meals were not mentioned.

15Don’t tell me Freedom Escapes, or whatever name they are using now, are still in operation! Almost got caught 2 1/2 years ago. Paid the money, realised it was not what they promised and tried for a refund. No joy at all from the Dept of Fair Trading, but managed to get my refund through my bank. Told them we were interested in the ‘Eat and Stay Free’ deal, particularly in Sydney City and Cairns. Discovered that the hotels named to us were not part of this deal. Only two hotels in the Cairns area - one in Cooktown and one on the Atherton Tablelands. Also only two in Sydney - one in Woollahra and one some distamce from Central Station but restricted to Monday to Friday only and reservations only 14 days in advance. Also discovered that if you only want cereal and toast for breakfast, you pay for a full breakfast and if you only want main course and coffee for dinner, still required to pay for full meal. Some minimum charge would have been reasonable, but a full meal!!!! This was only part of the problem - my full letter to Dept of Fair Trading, my bank and Freedom Escapes, detailing broken promises and unexplained restrictions ran to three typed pages. Very surprised to find they are still operating under whatever name they now use. There are any number of genuine good deals available nowadays if you want to get away for a few days.
